Blurb

I don't know why. But I am missing my family extra this week.
All I want to do is lay on the couch with my head on my mom's leg, have her play with my hair and rub my arm while we watch An Affair to Remember.
When it's over, she'll make her homemade malt thingy and I'll drool with anticipation.
We'll eat it outside by the fire pit in the dark. And we will laugh about nothing.
Then the next morning, I'll wake up to pancakes.
My dad will have the funnies set aside for me and coffee left in the pot.
He will then show me how the Aggies are doing sports wise. I'll ask what else is going on in the world. He will tell me.
When he leaves to "clean up", Mom and I will talk about how we slept and what we want to do that day.
We will all go to a movie.
Then when we get back I will pack my bags and load up my car.
My heart will hurt again. Much like it does now.

Wow...I cant imagine people get along like that with their families. A weekend at my house consists of the following.

I get home, and go visit my neices, but the time I get back, my parents have gone out for dinner, and then I get ready to go out with my friends, and dont come back until 4am.

Next morning, I wake up to my mom vaccuuming, she asks me how my drive was, I do my laundry, and she cleans, and we dont say a word to one another. I still havent even seen my dad.

Saturday night, I get ready to go out, see my dad for the first time on my way out the door, he says "hows it going" I say "good" and it's the last time I will see him that weekend.

Sunday, I get up, pack up my car, and head home....if someone is there, they say goodbye to me. but usually no one is there,

As long as you keep those memories in your mind, they're not really gone... They will always be there to pull out and read again like a much-loved paperback that you read over and over because you love the story so much...

Keep the memories close to the surface, and they're never really gone.

that sounds so cool
i wish my family were like that, but having read your post it's made me think about all the things that my folks actually do do for me and it's weird, you think that they don't do much, but when it comes down to it they do really do a hell of a lot

There's really nothing better or more comforting than laying your head in your mama's laugh while she plays with your hair. I'll always be a kid in that respect...

It sound like the holidays are making you a little homesick. I remember living away from my family and feeling homesick.

I'm with PP...I totally can't imagine getting along with my family that well. But it's good that you are able to.

Your post is funny because I was just thinking that I missed laying my head in your mother's lap and having her play with my hair too.

Dont cry for me argentina....LOL
Just kidding. You know, it's not a matter of being okay with it. Thats just how my family is...its more a matter of familiarity, and routine. I think that if I sit down to talk to them about my life, theyd die. Just like if they sat down to talk to me about their life, i'd die. They're my parents, I dont really care about them as people. They have their own lives, and i'm not a part of them. That's all really, nothing much to it. And ya, i'm okay with that, i've had to learn to be.

Awwwww.... thats so sweet and sad at the same time. I used to miss my family like that when I first left home at 18. Then I became a man and accepted that I had to live a life on my own. But those first six months it felt someone had died.
